If you’ve never been to Nakuru Town, then allow me to take your imagination on a little virtual tour around this striking remarkable town.
You see, I was born and raised up in Nakuru Town, but I can downright call myself a “foreigner” in my hometown. In the wake of this corona virus pandemic, is when I was forced out of my temporary abode in Kiambu county back to home sweet home.
I’ve never really had the chance to rove around the place and ironically, it’s during this time that I’ve actually found an opening to. It’s imperative I mention that I am observing all the safety measures as outlined by the Ministry Of Health because I do not want to come off as indifferent. I care- I really do-and I’m actually one of the most wary peeps you’ll ever come across.
Anyway, enough with the chit chat and fast forward to the hidden gems that are nestled within Nakuru Town. From exclusive to exquisite locations!
Just as you are driving along the Nakuru –Nairobi highway, 7.6 km away from Nakuru town CBD, you will come across Top Cliff Lodge Hotel. And as the name suggests, the hotel is situated on a cliff right beside the road. If you are a sucker for views, this one overlooks a unique scenery which includes Lake Nakuru National park and its environs. It is a tranquil and serene location, away from the marauding town noise and pollution. Here you will get access to a warm botanical sparse garden where you can hold events such as birthdays, weddings etc. Enjoy their state of the art outdoor swimming pool and a nice accommodation where guests are treated to free breakfast, an onsite restaurant and a lounge during their stay.
Now, if you are in town and want to catch up with friends over refreshing exotic cocktails and helluva sumptuous brunch then Alps hotel is the spot. Located in the posh Milimani estate, it sits on well-manicured grounds surrounded by a vibrant lush green garden. One thing in common with Top Cliff Lodge Hotel is that it overlooks an idyllic charming and sublime view of the town and Lake Nakuru as well. Experience the spectacular ambiance at their contemporary fancy open air rooftop bar that is one of the most elite I’ve come across so far in this region. I’m a sucker for exquisite interior decors and this one definitely took the price. Foodies will enjoy their extensive fresh thoughtfully prepared menu here, offering both local and international culinary delights. I can recommend the Indian curry on their menu which is just delectable! Enjoy their lavish outdoor pool, beautiful mature garden and on the plus side, there is a playground for kids. For accommodation, their rooms are superb, spacious with very exquisite ambiance and window views that are exceptional! On Sundays afternoons, treat yourself to a live band performance here that play a mix of African and world music.
Allow me to take you out a tad bit further. 25 kilometers away from the town-no more less than an hour drive-is the Sirville Lake Elementaita Lodge. A popular distinguished lakeside resort, with the touch of nature mixed with superb architectural design that gives you that cozy feeling. Enjoy unrivaled scenery of Lake Elementaita and its environs from their wooden cabin lounge with a terrace overlooking the lake. The hotel also gives a refreshing view of the Rift Valley hills against the backdrop of the calm and sparkling Lake Elementaita. They have quite deluxe rooms, all en-suite and furnished adequately for a luxury stay. Enjoy a guided walk to the lakes shore and spend a few hours soaking in the beauty of the lake or even have your meals served by the lakeside at your request. Wildlife here is in abundance as the lake attracts many visiting flamingos and its shores are grazed by zebras, gazelles, elands and families of warthog. They have excellent services, the stuff is friendly, the accommodation is superb and the food is top notch, including both local and international cuisines. They also have a swanky outdoor swimming pool, and a children’s playground while guests can relax at the garden.
Now let’s head back to town. 13 Kilometers from the town Center- in Nakuru East-lies Lanet Matfarm resort. With a lush green garden, an extensive deluxe outdoor swimming pool and a la carte restaurant, it’s an ideal location to take your family out for a relaxed fun filled weekend. Your children can enjoy a wonderful time at the playground as you enjoy a tantalizing meal over cool drinks at their outdoor seating area. Their menu is thoughtfully prepared with cuisines consisting of a mix of contemporary and African dishes. Be sure to have a taste of their notably hearty pancakes for breakfast as they are specially prepared for their guests .It also has open grounds for events and ceremonies like weddings. And they also offer conferencing packages to cooperate teams and other group meetings.
These are just but a few locations I’ve spotted around the town. I’m set on exploring more and I will for sure let you in on my little adventure!
